Following a brief gun battle, a joint team of Kurukshetra and Chandigarh police rescued an abducted 28-year-old non-resident Indian (NRI) from Dhurala village, about 10 kms from Kurukshetra town, on Tuesday afternoon.
The operation was completed at around 3 pm by the heavily armed police parties.
Victim was held hostage at a dera or a farm house which had two large two rooms.
Police said that a landlord residing in Kurukshetra town owns the dera.
Though the district superintendent of police Parul Kush Jain did not respond to the repeated calls made on her cell phone to confirm the details of the operation, sources said that five abductors were arrested by the Chandigarh police.
Sources in the district police said that soon after his rescue, the victim Navneet Singh was rushed to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Civil Hospital.
The doctor attending him, Dr Madhur told HT that Singh had superficial injury marks on various
parts of the body, including head but his condition was out of danger.
"He is calm and conscious and we have not recommended any emergency medical attention to him," the doctor said.

{{/usCountry}}However, sources said that the kidnappers were rushed to Chandigarh by the police and local sources claimed no one sustained injury in the exchange of fire.
Singh was kidnapped from Chandigarh and the police tracked the location to the Kurukshetra village.
Police sources said that one the accomplice's of the abductors was in the custody of the Chandigarh police and he was accompanied by the Chandigarh police on Tuesday at Dhurala village.
It was not known when the victim was kidnapped or any ransom was demanded or paid to the abductors.
