According to police, Mohit Gupta had gone missing on May 24. A report in this regard was lodged in kotwali police station on May 26. Later, police lodged a case of kidnapping on July 24.
As per his family members, Mohit Gupta had gone to Cantonment railway station on May 24 to meet his friends who were coming from Satna. However, he did not return home. Later, his bike was found near Cantonment railway station. The family members lodged a case of missing with the local police station.
Mohit’s father, Dr Rajendra Kumar Gupta, is a medical practitioner at Satna in Madhya Pradesh. Mohit was living with his maternal uncle at Gaighat under kotwali police station.
After his son went missing, Dr Rajendra Gupta contacted senior police officials and urged them to secure his safe release. Police and a team of Special Operation Group launched a massive operation in this regard.
“Mohit Gupta is not in the position to speak as he is reportedly ill”, SO kotwali GN Rai said. “We were told the kidnapped youth called his family members from Cantonment area and the family members rushed to the spot and picked him up”, he further said. “Till we talk to Mohit, it would not be easy to divulge details about the kidnappers and their identity”, he added.
The family members of the kidnapped youth believe that pressure of the Special Operation Group and police forced the kidnappers to set Mohit free.

Reports said dispute over water erupted between two groups in Barua village under Chauri police station on Saturday evening. One Babey Lal, 45 (45) was reportedly knifed and had to be rushed to hospital in Varanasi.
Babey Lal died in the hospital on Sunday. Later, when his body reached his home village, irate villagers sat on a dharna on Chauri road throwing normal traffic out of gear in Bhadhoi township for about three hours.
Reports said the agitating villagers lifted the dharna after senior officers convinced them that the accused would be arrested and the demand for compensation to the bereaved family would be forwarded to the higher authorities.
In another incident, a 19-year old married woman, identified as Mumtaz, committed suicide in Darzian mohalla area in Bhadhoi district on Sunday. Family dispute was stated to be the cause behind the extreme step.
Criminal arrestedCITY COPS arrested a history-sheeter in the wee hours of Sunday and recovered a country made pistol and 90 gram powder of diazepam from his possession. The arrested criminal was identified as Lalji Gupta, son of Harihar Gupta.
