A day after a speeding BMW car rammed a Tata Indigo near the Iffco Chowk Metro station, the city police have been unable the nab the accused.
According to sources, the car owner had also been booked in a shooting incident in 2010 in a case filed at the Sector 56 police station.
The car was being driven by a Delhi University student and the accident claimed the lives of two people, including a pregnant woman, the police said.
A police team on Sunday visited the car owner’s residence in Sector 14 but the car owner, Devendra Sharawat, was not available, said a police official. The victims’ kin, however, allege that the police have details about the accused but are not pursuing it.
The deceased were identified as Sanjay Gulati, 42, and Shama Chopra, 30. The injured —Rajendra Chopra, 68, Veena Chopra, 65 and Sailesh Sethi, 32 — are admitted to Max Hospital.
"The postmortem report has confirmed that Chopra, one of the victims, was pregnant. We have handed over the bodies to the family after the postmortem," said Jagdish Parshad, SHO of the Sector 29 police station.
The police said that the victim, along with her family, had come to Delhi for a medical check-up. The Chopra family belongs to Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) and had come to visit Gulati, a relative.

{{/usCountry}}Gulati’s body was sent to Jammu, his native place, for the last rites. He is survived by his wife and 12-year-old son. He had been living in Delhi for the past five years and running a transport business, said Gulatis relative.
"We are investigating the matter and the accused will be arrested soon. We are yet to get a statement from Dakshaya Jaiswal, a DU student who was injured in the accident and was inside the BMW car. He is still not in a condition to give a statement," said Maheshwar Dayal, DCP (crime).
