There were only two points on the agenda but the Council took an hour to decide that Department of General Surgery faculty member Dr KK Singh would continue to remain under suspension and Justice (Retd) KL Sharma would be the new member of the varsity disciplinary committee. The delay in the decision on the suspension order was because of the several mistakes in the paper work involved.

The HoD, Surgery, had forwarded the request for the ‘rejoining orders’ for Dr Singh without any note while the Registrar had written “deemed suspended” instead of “suspended” in the order served to Dr KK Singh!

Both the points dominated the debate and consumed much of the time during the meeting. Finally, the Registrar had to admit the mistake as a clerical error after explaining that the term “deemed suspensed” was used as the notice was served days after the suspension was imposed.

Every point mentioned in the letter from Dr Singh and legal cell’s opinion were put under discussion. It was finally resolved that Dr Singh would remain under suspension until he replies to the chargesheet and a final decision is made by the disciplinary committee. The EC would then decide upon Dr Singh’s joining.

The second point on the agenda of the meeting was about selecting a new member for the varsity disciplinary committee and it was decided that Justice Sharma would be appointed if he agrees.
