SCIENTISTS SHOULD use their knowledge for the benefit of common masses, said T Ramasami in the city on Tuesday. The Union Department of Science and Technology secretary was speaking at the silver jubilee function of Regional Research Laboratory (RRL) and the foundation day of Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

Director general of MP Council of Science and Technology (MPCST) Mahesh Sharma was the special guest. The chief guest also inaugurated RRL’s Natural Fibre Composite Development Centre and presented in-house recognitions and awards. He also participated in a workshop later in the day.

Ramasami said that research should revolve around common people. Presently the investment in research is not according to our potential, the secretary lamented that owing to this reason youth are attracted towards those sectors where management of science is more important that innovations. He also spoke on the future plans of the central government in this
direction.

Mahesh Sharma expressed hope that MPCST would be able to work for common people’s benefit together. RRL director N Ramakrishnan highlighted the activities of the laboratory and delivered the welcome address.
