For the first time in the city, Kolkata Police would not be in total charge of maintaining security arrangements in polling booths.
Sixty nine companies of Central Paramilitary Force (CPMF) would be deployed in 2,294 polling booths in Kolkata.
Though Kolkata police officers would be stationed at every booth, they would step in only if asked.
Anuj Sharma, DCP (headquarters), said that 300 mobile checking vans and 14,000 Kolkata police personnel have been deployed for the tight security arrangements across the city. "Mobile checking would start in 75 points from April 26," Sharma said.
The forces started marching on the streets on Monday. "As many as 179 booths have already been identified as sensitive booths in Kolkata but this process is still on," he said.
He also said that besides the No 100 dial, five more control rooms would also be opened in five divisions—North, South, Central, Port and Eastern Sub-Urban Division (ESD).
"Anyone facing any election related trouble could call up on these numbers to get prompt action," Sharma added.
Sharma also mentioned that on April 26 and 27, carrying arms would be prohibited. He also said that gathering of more than five people won't be allowed from April 26.
