While the skirts were soft and fluid, there were ugly threads sticking out of the seams. The classy sandals suffered from poor workmanship and one of them was even broken. A model walked out nonchalantly, not realising there was chewing gum stuck to her sole. This is exactly what buyers notice and base their opinions of the entire Indian fashion industry on.

The clothes in themselves were quite wearable and extremely feminine. Knee-length skirts in silk, crepe, chiffon and georgette were paired with structured shirts tied at the waist. The colours were very easy on the eyes - blacks, whites, powder blues and dusty pinks.

A stunning kurta in cotton viscose with sequin work on the neckline worn with straight easy fit pants looked smashing. As did sleeveless georgette kurtis with inbuilt sequined belts.

Mehta created an entire line of evening gowns that looked a tad tacky. If she hopes to compete on an international platform, the workmanship will have to improve drastically. Garish coloured gowns in maroon with black beading on them looked very passé. Some of the pleated empire waist gowns too seemed to be a few inches too long - would probably serve better as a calf-length asymmetrical dress.
