This was stated by committee chairman Satya Prakash Thakur while addressing mediapersons here on Friday. The committee had convened a meeting, in which it approved its annual budget of Rs 9 lakh for the development projects.

He said, “Our main motive is to inspire and educate the people about cooperative movement and its benefits to society.”

He said the committee demands from the state government to waive of loan of all weavers of the district, who failed to pay their dues due to economic crunch. He said looms of weavers had become obsolete and the state government as well as the national cooperative federation should conduct a research on it and provide a better one to weavers that would make them more competent in that stiff competition.

Thakur demanded to open a management educational institute at Kullu, which would provide training on business, cooperatives and accounts. He said it would help the people of Lahaul and Spiti and Kullu districts, which would provide them more avenues of employment in the district. He requested the state government to provide 10% subsidy on loom industry, which would help strengthen it.
