Verghese Kurien, former Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board, was on Monday appointed Chancellor of the University of Allahabad.
Kurien will be the first Chancellor of the varsity after it was recently accorded a Central University status.

Kurien, whose appointment takes place with immediate effect, will have a five year tenure as Chairman, official sources said.
