Labourer dies in Bengal well

Hours after the body of four-year-old Mahi Upadhyay was retrieved from a borewell Haryana's Manesar, a well claimed another life, this time in West Bengal.

Hours after the body of four-year-old Mahi Upadhyay was retrieved from a borewell Haryana's Manesar, a well claimed another life, this time in West Bengal.

On Sunday afternoon, Roshan Mondal, 20, a migrant labourer from Bihar, fell in while drawing water at a construction site at Eksara in Howrah district — around 10 km from Kolkata.

"The mouth of the well was on the ground level and there was no barrier," said Subhas Roy Prodhan, the pradhan of Chamrail gram panchayat.

"Due to the incessant rain, the area was muddy and slippery, and Mondol fell in."

The rescue operation started soon, but the narrow mouth of the well thwarted the efforts.
