Srikant Singh's family could not even carry out his last rites as the Haryana Police did not bother to identify his body before disposing it off. This happened while the cops were busy in formal discussions and sharing figures and views with their Delhi counterparts.
On July 30, Srikant's headless body was found on the roadside in Asalwas village, which falls under Kasola police station of Rewari district.
Even though the Delhi Police had uploaded Srikant's personal information, his photograph and other identification information on the Zonal Integrated Police Network (ZIP NET), the Haryana Police did not bother to scan it before cremating the body. They just declared it unidentified and, as formality, registered a murder case at Kasola Police Station.
Srikant's is a perfect case that demonstrates the failure of inter-state coordination meetings the Delhi Police have been holding with their counterparts of seven adjoining states.
And scanning ZIP NET and contacting their counterparts for solving cases of missing persons and unidentified bodies are one of the main points discussed in such meetings.
Just four days ago, the southeast Delhi Police had organised one such meeting. Rajan Bhagat, Delhi Police spokesperson, had then said, "During the meetings, we discuss the use of ZIP NET and requested them for using it. In 90% of such cases, Delhi Police take the help of ZIP NET and it has helped us in solving several cases." Even the Delhi High court has ordered an order instructing states police for using ZIP NET.
