The master plan committee has 76 members, including 53 village sarpanchs. Of the total, Congress MLA Ashwin Joshi and MP Sumitra Mahajan’s representative Rajesh Agrawal turned up during the spot verification.

This was despite the fact that the members had demanded spot visits after hearing public objections on the 2021 draft from September 25 to October 7, 2006 at the Collectorate.

Additional Collector Renu Pant along with Town and Country Planning Department officials set out on site verification along with Joshi and Agrawal. Apart from encroachments on green belt and preserving the public garden, there were reservations about widening of major roads that would mean demolition of residential settlements along the way.

On this, no solution could be reached. According to department officials, there was no provision for spot verification but it was held to satisfy the elected representatives on their special demand. The Master Plan Committee can make only recommendations and has no powers.
