Ten industrial workers attempted suicide in Nashik on Monday after they were dismissed from their jobs.

Four of the workers, all of whom consumed poison, are said to be critical. They were admitted to Nashik General Hospital and Suyash hospital.

The police are yet to register cases.

Sources said about 100 temporary workers of Epcos Co were terminated and went to voice their grievance with the labour commissionerate at Udyog Bhavan on Monday.

Epcos Co is a German Co that manufacturers electronic components.

Deputy Commissioner of Labour, T.G. Cholke told Hindustan Times that the workers did not know where the Labour office was.

So they took action near the gate of the building. “We will take whatever action is necessary under the law,” he said.

The company has a trade union affiliated to Centre for Indian Trade Unions and MNS wanted to open its trade union account.

The workers said the management and CITU connived to throw them out. This week, the company had filed a case of theft against some workers with the Satpur police station, an employee Sachin Suryawanshi said.
