"Our plan for 2005 is to have 100 Lakme Salons by the end of the year. At present, we have 70 such salons, of which four are company-owned and the rest franchises," Lakme Lever Vice-President Anil Chopra said on the sidelines of Lakme India Fashion Week, 2005 in Delhi.

"At present, the salon business contributes about 10-12 percent of Lakme's total turnover. We want to make it 20 per cent in the next three to four years," he said.

He said the salon business is leading the growth of Lakme followed by skin care and colour cosmetics business.

Asked about the investment for the upcoming salons, Chopra said since all of them would be
franchises, "it would not be a substantial amount".

Pointing out that new salons would be opened in the top 25 cities, he said at present, the company has no concrete plans to extend it to the eastern region markets.

Lakme has launched its premium 'Matteffect' range of skin care products for oily skin. Targeted at young women, the products would be priced between Rs 125-150.

"There is no specific product for women with oily skin in India, while 30-40 per cent of Indian women have oily skin," he said, adding "we are looking to tap this particular segment with 'Matteffect' range".
