Expressing serious concern over the abduction of two National Hydel Power Corporation engineers, Janata Dal (U) leader Nitish Kumar on Monday alleged that the government in Bihar appeared to have "ceased to exist."
He termed as "a cruel joke" RJD President Lalu Prasad's assertion that the opposition was behind the spate of abductions to harm the development of Bihar and tarnish the image of the state government.
"Prasad is against any development. He bursts into anger the moment he hears about development, like a bull after seeing a red rag," Kumar said in Patna.
The common man had realised that no government worth the name existed in Bihar and the Rabri Devi ministry has "lost the will to check the criminals, who are working in complete freedom," he alleged.
"In majority of the incidents of kidnapping or murder, the Bihar government remains a mute spectator and it is only when top NHPC officials are abducted or an eminent professional is harmed and the media highlights the issue that some action is taken here and there," he alleged.
"It's amazing that the police have to seek permission even to lodge an FIR against criminals," he said. He also alleged that the morale of the state police was completely shattered and a large number of vacancies in the force were yet to be filled.
