Land records clerk jailed for bribery

Rajesh Chavan, 35 a clerk in the land records department at Gadhinglaj in Kolhapur district was sentenced to a year-and-a-half in prison and fined Rs 2,000 for accepting a bribe to record land measurement details and give a copy of it to landowner Muralidhar Patil.

According to the prosecution, Chavan said he would not give land measurement details to Patil unless he was paid Rs 600.

Patil gave Chavan Rs 100 as advance and then informed the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) who arranged the trap. The prosecution managed to prove a case of bribe-taking.
