Purulia's Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Prasad said the area had been cordoned off after the mine was detected early this morning. A bomb disposal squad from Kharagpur in East Midnapur district was sent to the area to detonate it.

A huge police force led by Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Yadav also rushed to the spot.

On December 2, 13 policemen were killed and three others injured in a powerful landmine blast at Maoist-infested Kanchkiro in Bokaro district in Jharkhand.

Maoists also detonated six landmines in quick succession by remote control at a barren spot near Bandwan along Purulia's border with Jharkhand on December 2, 2006.
