Landslide victory for Left in Tripura civic poll

The ruling Left Front in Tripura secured absolute majority in all the 12 Nagar Panchayats and in the 35-member Agartala Municipal Council (AMC), according to official sources.

The civic poll elections were held on December 16 last and the counting of the votes began on Sunday morning.

In the 35-member Agartala Municipal Council (AMC), so far results for 26 seats were declared. The Left Front candidates bagged 21 seats and the opposition Congress bagged only five seats and the rest nine seats are yet to be declared.

Sources said, out of the 12 Nagar Panchayats, the Congress could not capture a single seat in five Nagar Panchayats and in other seven, they secured a few seats.
