As many as 18 refugees from Sri Lanka have arrived at Arichalmunai near Dhanushkodi, complaining scarcity of food and other essential commodities, including medicine, in strife-torn Jaffna.

The refugees, belonging to seven families, including seven men, six women and children, arrived in Tamil Nadu after paying Rs 5,000 per head as ferry charge.

They said a pitched battle was going on in Sri Lanka and though many were willing to flee the country, the Navy was preventing them.
