Six fishermen of Pudukottai district were arrested by Sri Lankan navy while they were fishing near the Lankan coast, authorities said on Sunday.

Assistant director of the fisheries department, Sekar, said the fishermen of Jegathapattinam village were fishing at Neduntheevu on Saturday night when the Lankan navy arrested them.
The fishermen along with their boat were later taken to Kangesanthurai, he added.
On December 17, four Tamil Nadu fishermen were arrested for fishing near Neduntheevu islet off Lanka.
Chief minister Jayalalithaa recently sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in securing the release of 41 fishermen from the state detained in Sri Lanka, besides 56 boats.
