AS MANY as 600 people attended the diabetes awareness programme titled ‘surgery and anaesthesia in diabetes’ organised by the Diabetes Education Forum at SRN Hospital Auditorium on Saturday. The programme was inaugurated by MLN Medical College principal Dr PC Saxena.

On the occasion, head of the department of anaesthesia Dr MN Mishra, anaesthologists Dr SC Chandra and Dr LN Mishra of MLN Medical College discussed the different conditions in which anaesthesia is administered to a diabetic patient during surgery.
Associate professor of surgery Dr Shabi Ahmed informed about the advantages of laparoscopic surgery in a diabetic patient. Laparoscopic surgery requires a minimal incision and there is quick recovery after the surgery. The possibility of infection is also reduced to a minimum. But such surgery should be performed only by a trained surgeon, he said .
Head of neurosurgery Dr Nitya Nand Gopal spoke on the types of head injury, their symptoms, causes and prevention.
He said the diabetic patient should wear a helmet.
