A lathicharge outside Nahar Singh Stadium, venue for the second one-dayer between India and England, left three people, including a five-year-old girl, injured.
Outsides the gates of the stadium, the scene resembled that of a battlefield with police resorting to lathicharge to prevent ticketless people from entering the ground.
The police action resulted in injuries to a middle-aged woman and her child who had to be rushed to a nearby hospital.
Another woman, newly married, was also at the receiving end of the lathicharge.
The incident happened at Gate number 7 when people with valid tickets were stopped from entering the stadium.
Haryana Police said they were forced to take the action to prevent ticketless crowd from sneaking into the stadium.
"There were a large number of ticketless people who were trying to forcefully entry the stadium from Gate Number 7. They were pushing the valid ticket holders and were bent upon sneaking in. At this juncture we resorted to a mild cane charge," Faridabad police chief Mahender Singh said.
Had the police not acted, the unruly crowd could have created more problems and the genuine ticket holders would have been left high and dry, Singh said.

{{/usCountry}}"We took action keeping the interests of genuine ticket holders in mind. Still, we exercised maximum restraint and tried to ensure common people were not put to inconvenience," he said.
Singh said another unruly group, which was trying to create a ruckus, had been stopped at a distance of about one km from the stadium.
