It's time for Delhi to laugh its lungs out. To commemorate the launch of The Comedy Store (a leading comedy club in the UK) in Mumbai in December 2009, three stand-up artistes worth their sugar and spice are here to rock us out of our wits.
On a multi-city The Comedy Store Tour to Delhi, NCR and Mumbai, New Zealand-based Jarred Christmas was treated to honking horns; something that he wasn't expecting. "But I'm loving my stay in Delhi anyhow," he exclaims.
As part of the HT City partnered event on Wednesday, Jarred made himself the butt of all jokes to entertain the audience. "I don't patronise the audience. I let them have fun at my expense. I performed in a field full of enthusiasts at the Glastonbury Festival a few years ago and had a ball. I want to treat Indians to that fun," he says.
His partner in comical crime, Jeff Innocent isn't as 'innocent' as he looks either. While he's laughing out loud in India, the Londoner doesn't mind teasing his wife "who may be doing the dishes back home" by sending her pictures of his excursions in the subcontinent.
Joining them in the riot is Phil Nichol from Canada. The renowned comedy king declares himself 'the funniest one' among the trio and already has his bag full with surprises for the desi crowd. "Considering I've toured India in 2006, I know what Indians like. This time around, I'll tell jokes based on my experiences of living in the 'rough and aggressive' London. I'll also share the frustration of being mistaken for an American, the different effects of alcohol and a song called I'm the only gay Eskimo. It's really funny, trust me," he says.
