Maithriya Gowda, the Kannada actor who raised a storm in August 2014 by accusing Union law minister DV Sadananda Gowda’s son of rape and cheating, has alleged that the minister is trying to influence the outcome of the case.

In a letter to the President written on Sunday, Maithriya has urged President Pranab Mukherjee to “relieve” Gowda of his ministerial position till the investigation is complete.

She expressed fears that the Judicial Appointments Bill, if passed into a law, will confer enormous power to the office of the law minister. She said: “Now, since the collegium system of election of judges to the judiciary is to be replaced by the Judicial Appointment Bill, I am all the more concerned over being a victim of undue political pressure and interference by the law minister over the officials and judiciary in impartation of justice to me.”

Speaking to HT, Gowda said he had stayed away from the investigation since it began. “The law will take its own course and there’s no question of protecting anybody.”
