The law should take its course if the Election Commission felt that an action should be taken against her for "exposing a bogus voter," ruling PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said on Tuesday reacting to EC's order to file an FIR against her for "intimidating" a voter.
"Election Commission has its own credibility and if it feels that action should be taken against me for exposing a bogus voter, let the law take its course," Mehbooba, who is a candidate from south Kashmir Anantnag parliamentary constituency, said.
The PDP chief said her action during the second round of polling for Srinagar parliamentary constituency on April 26 was taken in the capacity of a responsible citizen.
"As a responsible citizen, I challenged the woman as she had already made two futile attempts to cast her vote at Burn Hall polling station in Sonawar," she said.
In a jolt to PDP, the EC on Tuesday ordered filing of an FIR against Mehbooba for allegedly intimidating voters on the April 26 phase of polls in the state.
EC spokesman AN Jha said there were complaints from the state alleging that Mehbooba had gone to a polling station and intimidated voters and allegedly pulled the veil from the face of a woman voter.
