Firoz Alam, a resident of Muzaffarpur, said in his affidavit, submitted in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate on May 15, that he had written the LLB Part II examination for Shahabuddin following a promise that he would be paid Rs 20,000.

Firoz, who has gone underground fearing for his life, said Mohammad Tauhid Alam, the principal of RDS college where the test was held, had approached him to take Shahabuddin’s place. The test was written at Alam’s residence, Firoz said, and accused examination controller Satyendra Thakur of helping the principal's son smuggle answer-scripts out of the examination hall. Alam has denied that he knew Firoz, alleging his confession was part of a conspiracy.

He said he was paid Rs 15,000 in two instalments. But when he sought the last instalment of Rs 5,000, the principal threatened to get him killed or arrested.
