The MP high court on Monday adjourned the hearing of the petition on proper medical rehabilitation of Bhopal gas tragedy victims, which was filed by the Bhopal Gas Peedith Mahila Udyog Sangthan and others.
The hearing has been postponed till September 3 as the lawyers were abstaining from court work.
Lawyers on Monday abstained from the courts here demanding the state to make provision for the protection of the lawyers as two lawyers were attacked last week. The strike was called by MP High Court Bar Association.
In August 2013, the apex court had shifted the petition to the High Court after directing the state government to take steps to provide medical surveillance, computerisation of medical information, publication of ‘health booklets’, etc. for the Bhopal gas victims.
The apex court has empowered a monitoring committee for the rehabilitation in to oversee proper functioning of hospitals such as BMHRC as well as other government hospitals treating gas victims.
The monitoring committee is authorised to hear complaints and if necessary can even scrutinise records of the concerned hospital, record the statements of government servants and employees of the hospital and make its recommendations to the state government for taking appropriate steps on concerned issues.
