THE CENTRAL Administrative Tribunal Bar Association has condemned the reported move of the Central Government to abolish Central Administrative Tribunals in the country.
A meeting of lawyers belonging to CAT has decided to send a delegation under the leadership of president of CAT Bar Association RP Singh to meet Congress chief Sonia Gandhi in this connection. They will apprise her as to how some bureaucrats are allegedly making efforts to get a forum established by late Rajiv Gandhi abolished.
The secretary of CAT Bar Association, Allahabad Ashish Srivastava has alleged that some bureaucrats want to deprive CAT of its contempt power and also to abolish it ultimately.
It may be recalled that if aggrieved over any decision of the Central Government or its higher authorities, the Central Government employees can file their cases in CAT at the first instance. If the employees or their departments are not satisfied with CAT’s order, they may challenge it before the High Court by filing a writ petition. Thereafter, the last forum before them is the Supreme Court.
The meeting alleged that bureaucrats, being aggrieved over the decisions of CAT, wanted to get rid of it. Previously also such efforts were made, but they failed due to the heavy protest registered by the lawyers belonging to CAT.

{{/usCountry}}A notification issued by Joint Secretary, Union Ministry of Law and Justice DR Meena said that Samar had been authorised to conduct Central Government cases and also for the conduct of cases filed against public officers while in the service of Central Government before the High Court, Allahabad.
Condolence: A condolence meeting was held by the lawyers in the Library Hall of Allahabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA) to mourn the death of Kedar Nath Shukla, father of Ashok Kumar Shukla, former vice-president of HCBA. The meeting, presided over by secretary of HCBA Rakesh Pandey and conducted by Shashi Shekhar Tiwari, joint secretary, expressed grief over the death of Shukla.
