THE LDA’s submission on Nehru Enclave defies logic.

On Thursday, the development agency put out a public notice inviting applications for vacant flats in the colony. Nothing strange in that except for the fact that the number of flats available for booking was shown to be 65 when the development agency had claimed to have freed 76 flats from the clutches of the illegal occupants only two days back.
The discrepancy seems to have escaped the eyes of department’s mandarins.
But then this just seems to be a tip of the iceberg of a flourishing property racket that is being run by the same unscrupulous of LDA’s property section with whose connivance flats in the colony were grabbed by anti-socials. Or how else would the LDA explain the mysterious disappearance of at least 141 flats from the list of vacant properties put out by it.
In its first drive against the encroachers on April 15, the department’s enforcement squad had claimed to have evicted illegal occupants from 130 flats.
Subsequently, possession of another 76 flats was taken by the LDA in the two-day operation on July 31 and August 1.
This puts the total number of vacant properties in the Enclave at 206. But the LDA maintains that only 65 flats are available for allotment/sale! So what happened to the remaining 141? What is their status? Are they occupied or have they already been allotted? If so, when and how? This is because the LDA did not invite any applications or opened booking for the property under the scheme. Which means that these were apparently out of turn allotments.

{{/usCountry}}These are some questions to which the LDA officials don’t seem to have any answers. So, who then is afraid of letting the truth prevail in the matter? Obviously, the same section of the greedy ‘babus’ who facilitated the entry of the mafias and students leaders into these flats in the first place are once again trying to hoodwink the authorities on the issue.
They have turned the whole eviction exercise into a one big farce by dishing out one lie after another. But then does anybody care? It speaks volume of their clout and reach in the power corridors that despite involvement and role in pulling off this property fraud causing huge financial loss to the department not one of them has so far been brought to book.
