The Chief Minister repeated his oath "in the name of farmer and God" when he sworn in a member of the legislative assembly by pro-tem speaker KG Bopaiah, on Wednesday. He was the first legislator to take oath followed by Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of the Congress legislature party.

However, some BJP members caused a flutter during the swearing in session. Four of them, including minister B. Sriramulu, B. Nagendra, Nemiraj Nayak and G. Somashekar Reddy, embarrassed their leaders by taking oath "in the name of G. Janardhan Reddy", a mining magnate of Bellary and member of the legislative council. All these legislators were elected to the legislative assembly from various seats in Bellary district. Besides, B. Suresh Gowda, also BJP, took oath in the name of Sri Shivakumar Swamy and Yeddyurappa.

In all, 202 of the 224 members took oath today. The others, including former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and his elder brother H D Revanna, will take oath on Thursday.
