The old Zentralstadion stadium was constructed way back in 1956. It was then the highest capacity stadium of Germany with a seating arrangement for 100,00 spectators.

The reconstruction that completed in December 2003 cost around € 90.6 million. The newly constructed building has lighting integrated into its striking roof. Paying attention to spectator-safety, the stadium boasts of employing an innovative emergency evacuation system.
