Even after one month of functioning, the police station at MG Road is still waiting to get more space, which should have been provided to it much before.

“There should be at least four to five rooms for a police station. At other four Metro stations, where there is no police station, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) must provide some space for a police assistance booth,” said SS Deswal, police commissioner of Gurgaon.

The police have also asked the Metro authorities to issue Metro passes to the patrolling officers, so that they can travel between the stations regularly.

HT had earlier reported about loopholes in security measures taken at the Metro stations. The report highlighted that there was not even a single CCTV camera at any of the five Metro stations.

“We had raised the issue of CCTV cameras before the Commonwealth Games were held in October last year. But nothing has been done as of now,” said Deswal. He said these measures were imperative. The presence of policemen and paramilitary personnel, provided by the DMRC, would make female commuters feel secure. “Earlier, commuters had to go to police stations in their respective areas for the want of any assistance. But now, all Metro stations have been put under strict police vigilance. Our initiative has relieved female commuters,” he said.
