The Delhi Police’s Special Cell on Sunday arrested two alleged Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists, who the police claim, were planning a strike in the busy Paharganj market.
Samiullah (32) and Ali Mohammad (25), both from Kashmir, were caught outside the New Delhi Railway Station when they were proceeding to plant explosives in Paharganj, barely a kilometre away from Connaught Place, and the heart of New Year celebrations, police said.
The police have recovered two improvised explosive devices (IED) and eight batteries from them. The explosives were concealed in toys. "We arrested the two from outside the New Delhi railway station with a bag containing toys and batteries. The toys were fitted with explosives," said Karnal Singh, Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).
The duo arrived in the capital from Jammu by the Chennai-bound Andaman Express around 5:45 pm. The train stops for 45 minutes in Delhi, during which period they planned to plant the explosives and board the same train to reach Chennai.
