LIFE INSURANCE Corporation of India managing director DK Mehrotra on Tuesday spelt out the qualities of a world-class organisation.

“The ability to define and articulate what makes people care about you is critical for any company striving to become a world-class organisation,” he said.
He was delivering the inaugural address of the new academic session (2006-07) and yearlong lecture series on ‘Building World- Class Organisations’, at the Faculty of Management Studies in BHU.
Mehrotra said, “In world-class organisations, everyone’s energy is focused on three things — being the provider of choice, the employer of choice and the investment of choice.”
“Leaders in great companies believe that people, their customers and associates are as important as their bottom line,” he said.
He said today’s business leaders sustain their competitive edge by keeping themselves abreast of the latest practices and learning to apply them to every aspect of their organisation.
“Learning about customising and implementing the best practices is the surest way to enhance the efficiency of your organisation,” he added.
“Becoming aware of the myriad best practices available is the first step in getting started. Once you have become familiar with the array of best practices available, you will need to look at your organisation’s existing structure and study it closely. You will then gain a better understanding of the pros and cons of each practice, as they apply to your business needs and the best ways to tailor them to specific functions and departments,” he said.
He suggested that to be an effective and dynamic leader, one must think globally and creatively.
