LIFW spawns make-up trends

Trailing a caravanserai of looks from tribes, Africa and Egypt, designers have taken inspiration from the exotic. In turn, make-up artists use the clothes to create aspirational looks after Rina and Ranna's gold tinged micro-separates and Nandita Basu's splendid English Patient nurse look, where the war became uber chic, the make-up palette at the Lakme India Fashion Week went either OTT glam or restrained nude.

Clint's make-up for Ranna with flashing mirrors on the faces will certainly influence Indian bridal make-up. It was make-up couture at it's best.

Make-up maestro Cory Wallia feels: "Designers are moving away from showcasing and promoting themselves to conjure commercially viable collections, which is wonderful because pure fashion dictates make-up trends. If a collection is strong, the make-up becomes an accent."

"There are two types of designers: those who use make-up and hair to create a complete aspirational look for the buyer and the other designers who downplay the make-up, like Rajesh Pratap, to leave the clothes in the spotlight."

Cory made this point: "Ranna Gill took the look beyond aspirational to inspirational! It was obvious where the inspiration came from."

As the week progresses, expect fashion trends to emerge. Beyond the Cleopatras, Bollywood cowboys and Gothic gloom, Lakmé India Fashion Week is looking bright and shimmering in the make-up department.

Way to go!
