THE WORKERS of continuing education programme of the district literacy committee staged a demonstration outside Vikas Bhawan in Varanasi on Saturday in support of their demands.
Speaking on the occasion, the speakers alleged that the district administration was not paying attention to the literacy programme in the district. They said the workers had got training in this regard eight months back but the programme had not been initiated in the district yet.
Coordinators of the continuing education programme Shanti Singh, Shakuntala Devi, Mudila Pandey, Savitri Kumari etc alleged that some members of the literacy samiti, belonging to different non-governmental organisations, were creating unnecessary hurdles in this prestigious programme. They warned if the district administration did not take any initiation to start this programme by September 7, they would intensify their agitation.
