MSEDCL’s annual revenue requirement (ARR), submitted last week to the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission, stated that an escalation rate of 6.5 per cent and factors like costly power purchase from other sources, Rs 20,397 investment for three years to meet demand and reducing distribution losses and maintenance costs are behind the proposed hike.

MSEDCL has sought a uniform rise of 25.9 per cent in the charges except for those the below poverty line (5 per cent) and domestic (10 per cent) categories.

The hiked tariff would fetch MSEDCL Rs 18,772 crore as against current Rs 15,983 crore.
