India is living in a world of make-believe while trusting Pervez Musharraf to stop terrorism and dismantle training camps. India ought to know that it is the Pakistani army and the ISI who are the architects of anti-India terrorism. They are also the lifelines of any Pakistani ruler.

In his article Who are we fooling? (September 19), B Raman has set the record straight by marshalling a formidable array of facts. By consenting to a joint mechanism with Pakistan, India has conferred the status of a victim of terror on Pakistan, instead of a perpetrator. The government should clarify the implications of this.

For self-interest

With reference to the report Lalu makes tracks to IIM-A (September 19), though he has changed the fortunes of the Indian Railways, he has only done it to bolster his image. We cannot forget that 15 years of RJD rule was a nightmare for Bihar. To prove that he is a responsible politician, Lalu must now ensure the welfare of Bihar and its people.

What useful tips did Lalu give to our budding managers? Everybody knows about the skills he displayed before his tenure in the railway ministry — chara ghotala, et al.

Over-expectations

Apropos of the editorial UNdoing redundancy (September 20), the UN cannot meet the expectations of every nation because the foreign policy of each country is driven by its own national interest, and it is very difficult to arrive at a consensus on some issues. Therefore, Israel and the US cannot be blamed for acting unilaterally sometimes to protect their overriding national concerns.
