Steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal has been given the 'Asian Achiever' award for 2005 instituted by a leading Asian media house.

Mittal was chosen for his contribution to the steel industry that includes his company's steel plants across the globe.

The award was given here at a function on Thursday evening, with journalist Piers Morgan as the chief guest.

Manuhai Madhwani, an industrialist, was given the Lifetime Achiever's Award.

Sonia Deol, BBC's Asian phone-in programmer was awarded the media, art and culture award.
