Doctors at the Lok Nayak Jayprakash Hospital in New Delhi on Monday, called off their three-day-old strike after the administration assured to look into their demands of changing the security agency at the institute in the wake of attacks on medicos from irate relatives of patients.
Nearly 300 medicos, who went on an indefinite strike on Saturday, returned to work on Monday afternoon after the hospital management set up a committee to look into the demands of the agitating doctors.
"We returned to work at 3:30 pm After the hospital management assured to address our security concerns," Jitendra Singla, president of the resident doctors' association said.
The association had given the strike call on Saturday after one of its members was allegedly thrashed by relatives of a patient who had died at the hospital.
The relatives had accused the doctor of negligence and administering wrong treatment that led to the patients death.
"We have also asked the hospital authorities to ensure presence of policemen in uniform in the emergency wards of the hospital. Such a move would act as a deterrent to the relatives of the patients being treated at the hospital," Singla said.
The strike had hit the Out-Patients Department and emergency ward of the hospital. Senior doctors have been attending on the patients, hospital officials said.
