The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) and the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) claimed that they will complete the work by September 30.

GLADA Superintending engineer RK Jaidka said the work would be completed within a week and the underpass would be inaugurated as soon as the LIT finishes construction of the nearby road.
Meanwhile, the LIT has also started the construction work on a stretch of 600 metres that connects Pakhowal Road with the underpass.

Earlier, none of the authorities GLADA, MC or LIT was taking the responsibility of constructing this stretch, without which the underpass was of no use, but LIT was then directed to start work on this stretch.

On visiting the construction site, the staff informed that it was likely to be inaugurated in the first week of October. However, the district administration admitted that the work is in final stage, but no formal date has been announced for inauguration, which is likely to be done by deputy CM.

GLADA had earlier planned to setup two sumps, but constructed only one. On visiting the underpass site, an official of the construction company, said, they were going to construct concrete road under the railway bridge, and they had also installed two pumps to avoid water-logging.

“Only one sump will be used now as the permission for another sump has not been granted by the railways”, he said.

LIT sub-divisional officer Boota Ram said, “We will complete the construction work on 600m stretch by September 30. We were informed that the underpass could be inaugurated in the first week of October.”

Earlier, the authorities had claimed to complete this project worth Rs 37 crore by March this year. Deputy commissioner Rajat Agarwal said the work was in final stage, and the date for inauguration had not been confirmed.
