The newly launched Maharashtra unit of the Loksatta party has announced its intention to contest all the six parliamentary seats in the city in which candidates would be chosen through interviews and public debates.
For this, the party has appointed a three-member Independent Election Authority headed by Anu Aga, former chairman of Thermax Company Limited. Justice B.N. Srikrishna, Judge, Supreme Court of India (Retd) is also a member.
Surendra Srivastava, president, Maharashtra unit of Loksatta, said the party would offer forms to anyone who wants to contest elections from the party.
“The details of the candidates would be scrutinised by the three-member election authority. If two or more are found eligible, there be interviews and public debates between the aspirants,” said Srivastava.
In case of the Assembly elections to be held this year, the prospective candidates aspiring for fighting the elections from a particular ward would have to get elected among the party members residing in that particular ward.

{{/usCountry}}“Most people are fed up of the rotten political culture and it is time to change this. Mumbai is the only city which can provide leadership of value,” he said. “Seeing the immense potential in the city, the time has come for Mumbai to lead from the front.”
Social activists, lawyers, chartered accountants and college students joined the party on its inauguration day.
