Nature has a way of providing answers to almost every beauty ailment. Most of these miracle-workers can be found in the kitchen. And, watch your diet!

Winter brings with it not just lovely weather, but skin problems too. Due to lack of humidity, the skin loses moisture and becomes dry, taut and uncomfortable. So, what does one do to stay healthy and look glamourous this season? “You need to adjust your daily routine to provide moisture and nourishment to your skin and hair,” says Shehnaz Hussain, beauty expert.

If your skin is normal to dry, she advises you to discontinue the use of soap and use a cleansing gel containing aloe vera, instead. For oily skin, use a cleansing milk or lotion. Use rose water to tone the skin after cleansing. For dry skin, night-time cleansing should be followed by nourishment with a cream. Always apply sunscreen, advises Hussain.

Sun-exposure depletes the skin of moisture, causing further dryness. Facial masks should also be part of the skin-care routine. You can make a mask at home with two teaspoons wheat bran (choker), one teaspoon almond meal or oatmeal and one teaspoon each of honey, curd and rose water. Lips becomes dry and chap easily. Avoid matte lipsticks.

Every night, apply an almond cream or almond oil on the lips and leave it on overnight. Massage sesame seed oil before your bath, or apply a lemon-turmeric cream. Immediately after your bath, apply a body lotion, while the skin is still damp. This seals in moisture. Dry feet and cracked heels need intensive care. At night, soak your feet in hot water for 20 minutes.

Repeat the hot towel wrap three or four times. This helps the hair absorb the oil better. Wash your hair the next day. Remember, nothing beats nourishment in your diet. What we eat reflects in our hair and skin. So, load on those citrus fruits, dry fruits and greens.Gear up not only for the season but for compliments, too.
