Looking at Israel

David Danieli’s article Unsettling terror (August 18) shows the attempt by Israelis to gloss over the real picture. The world is witness to the US’s needless aggression against Iraq on the basis of false claims. The threat to Iran and Syria are manifest in Israel’s retaliation against the Hezbollah. As far as the Hezbollah, Hamas and other outfits are concerned, Israel’s policies in West Asia are part responsible for the creation of these outfits.

Do MPs have a role?
Apropos of the report From RWAs to self-governing bodies (August 16), many people miss the essence of the Bhagidari project which is service to society. Why is this being looked at as a parallel force of governance? If only RWAs represent citizens, what is the role of the MPs, MLAs and councillors?

National shame
On Independence Day, a TV channel showed a few MPs at their ignorant best. The majority of them didn’t know the full name of Mahatma Gandhi or trivia on the national flag and national anthem. It was a sad commentary on elected parliamentarians who are supposed to be the keepers of the Constitution.

Rejig the forecasts
The solar system is going to get a new planet, if voted in by the International Astronomical Union on August 24 (New planet means new books, new toys, August 18). There will then be 10 planets, which will be incorporated in all textbooks sooner or later. But what happens to astrological forecasts, which depend on the position of the nine planets?

{{/usCountry}}Probably the predictions, which have gone astray, can now be reconciled with the addition of the tenth planet.
