It is the age of technologies and why should the Gods be left behind? In a novel twist literally, Vimanika Comics has started Facebook pages of Gods around whom their graphic novels revolve. Fans can chat, get queries answered or just be friends with their favourite deities. The latest entrant to this mix will be Lord Shiva, whose graphic novel series Shiva- The Legends of the Immortal was launched recently. And to get the feel right, fans will also get music CDs featuring the famous Shiva tandav.
“We conducted a poll on Facebook asking fans to name their most wanted God. Shiva was the most voted and I too was thinking about featuring him since two years. So we went ahead and started this series,” says Karan Vir Arora, founder, Vimanika Comics. The series is scheduled to run for 10 parts though Arora admits that it could be “shortened or broadened depending on the response”. “Despite being a part of the Holy Trinity (Vishnu and Brahama being the other two), not much is known about this charismatic and mysterious God, who is somehow more relatable than the others,” says Arora.
The first book revolves around Shiva’s origins and his marriage to Sati while the forthcoming issues will reveal various aspects of his complex personality. Arora says, “There are so many legends to cover and we have done a lot of research to ensure their authenticity.”
In a first, the book will be accompanied with a free music CD that features Shiva’s tandav. This marks the launch of Vimanika’s music division. Shabaz Mansoory, a Canadian artiste, has composed the music. Arora says, “The idea is to hear the music and read the book at the same time and let your imagination get away.”
