PROBE REPORT into the controversial prayer service held at the Loreto Convent college here on September 6 was submitted to chief secretary NC Bajpai by district magistrate Ramendra Tripathi on Saturday.

Confirming this, the DM, however, refused to divulge findings of the four-member committee that was asked to probe the incident. Sources, on the other hand, revealed that though the inquiry report was given to the DM on Friday, he had suggested some last-minute changes in the choice of words used by the probe team in the course of investigation.
“We had given a set of questionnaire to the college authorities about the special prayer service. I, for one, at least did not find their (college authorities) answers very satisfactory,” said an officer on the probe panel requesting anonymity. The report has also taken into account the vandalism that was unleased on the college campus allegedly by Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha members on September 10.
“But since a police case has been registered with the Hazratganj police station, we have merely made a passing reference to the incident, which in any case was not the subject matter of the inquiry,” said the source. SP (East) Ajay Shankar Rai, additional district magistrate (East) Janardan Baranwal, District Inspector of Schools Vikas Srivastava and additional city magistrate (I) RP Singh were among those who were asked to conduct a probe by the State Government on September 10 and were given three days to submit the report.
