Love note lands Hindu lawmaker in trouble

A Hindu lawmaker who send an alleged 'love note' to a woman legislator- 'aap kaisi hain' has won a legal case against five rival members who beat him.

A Hindu lawmaker, who sent an alleged "love note" to a woman legislator in Sindh in June this year, has won a legal case against five rival members who beat him up on the floor of the legislature.

The district and sessions judge of Karachi South Friday arraigned five opposition legislators of the Sindh assembly, including opposition leader Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, for attempting to murder Eshwar Lal, a legislator from the treasury bench.

Eshwar Lal, who belongs to the Pakistan Muslim League (Qaid), sent a note to a woman legislator, Shazia Marri, asking 'aap kaisi hain?' (how are you?), as she had not been keeping well. But Shazia, who belongs to the opposition Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarian (PPPP), turned the note to her seniors, alleging that it was a "love note" and Lal meant to harass her.

Lal was beaten up by the opposition legislators. Later Lal filed a complaint with the police.

The lawmaker was expelled from the legislature for the duration of that session, while his rivals attracted adverse observations by the chair in assembly.

PPPP leader Nisar Khuhro and other legislators, Munawar Ali Abbasy, Mohammad Nawaz Chandio, Mohammad Saleem Hingoro and Murad Ali Shah denied the charges and pleaded 'not guilty', a Pakistan daily, 'Daily Times', said.

Sessions Judge Zaheeruddin S. Leghari, after the indictment, adjourned the case till Wednesday next.
