Unlike in the past, when Valentine's Day used to be one of the most memorable days for the prisoners, this year, it will prove to be a dry day. Courtesy: Recently installed high-tech surveillance system in the jail complex.

"Receiving and sending of greeting cards is still allowed but due to strict security checks, their number has shown a marked decline," Sunil Gupta, a spokesman for the jail, said.

"The joy that an inmate feels when his or her beloved visits on February 14 has no alternative. But, this year due to rise in the number of jail breaks and security lapses, security devises have been installed that are acting as a deterrent for couples who want to offer gifts," Gupta further added.

So, how does it work? Now, anyone who wishes to meet his/her better half needs to pass through a set of security checks including electronic surveillance and being photographed. The strict process has left inmates as well as visitors in fear that they might land into unwanted trouble.
