LS Speaker is right

With reference to the report More judges, more the delay (February 25), Somnath Chatterjee rightly says that the recent decision taken by the government to increase the number of Supreme Court judges will not solve the problem, but rather increase the number of arrears and would prove counter-productive. In fact, great scrutiny is required before admitting a particular case, especially PILs. There should be accountability for the judiciary, too.

I do not agree with the statement of Speaker Somnath Chatterjee. More Supreme Court judges will enable us to have faster judgments. This alone may not serve the purpose, but at least it will put things on the right track.

Denouncing terror
Apropos of the report Darul fatwa against terror (February 26), it is for the first time that an Islamic institution has banned terrorism. This is a welcome step as it will help all religions and societies in the world to strengthen their belief in the Muslim community. The word ‘Islamic terrorism’ is misleading modern societies. In fact, all religions should get together to fight terrorism.

The denouncement of terrorist activities as anti-Islam is music to our ears. Terrorism has no place in a civilised society, whatever its cause. Let us hope that the followers of the Uloom across the world obey the guidelines issued by their leaders. This will go a long way in bringing peace to mankind.
