The Sri Lankan government's defence spokesman, Keheliya Rambukwela, told Hindustan Times on Wednesday, that the LTTE had sought permission to secure treatment in the capital city, and President Mahinda Rajapaksa had readily acceded to the request on humanitarian grounds.

"This shows how accommodating His Excellency is," Rambukwella said.

Thaya Master, who is in his forties, was coming with his family and would be admitted to Apollo hospital, sources close to him said.

He had been complaining of chest pain and discomfort since Friday. Earlier too he had had serious problems and had been in an ICU in the LTTE's hospital in Kilinochchi, the sources said.
